A Barossa Valley Born Winemaker

Having spent his childhood and working life with the rich Barossa Valley soil underneath his feet, Krondorf Winemaker Nick Badrice naturally has an affinity for the region’s world renowned Shiraz style.

It’s this connection to the Barossa Valley that sits behind Nick’s philosophy of creating wines with character and individuality, but which proudly speak of their regional home.

After growing up in the Barossa Valley and after leaving school, Nick’s career in wine began with some chance vineyard work in the Eden Valley. An invitation from renowned Riesling master John Vickery to work the following vintage at Leo Buring inspired and introduced Nick to a career in winemaking.

Today, Nick has close to three decades of experience in the wine industry and over 16 years winemaking in the Barossa, Hunter Valley, Tasmania and Spain. Nick is the Krondorf winemaker.

“There’s an inherent responsibility in respecting and building on Krondorf’s history and we are doing this by continually developing our old vine resources, small batch winemaking and showcasing regional style,” Nick says.

And while his heart and feet still remain firmly planted on Barossa Valley ground, Nick complements his experience exploring the regions of Spain having spent several vintages working throughout different regions. An enforcer of traditional winemaking methods, Nick also recognises the merits of new technology. It is this fusion of traditional and innovative modern techniques that Nick implements at the winery that allows him to produce high quality wines showcasing the true flavours and character of the Barossa region.

Krondorf wines have won over 300 wine show medals; 90+ James Halliday ratings; Winestate magazine’s Top 5 Shiraz of the Year recognition; Double Gold in San Francisco Wine Show; and a Trophy at the International Wine Challenge (UK).
